Sidechain compression also known as the ducking effect has become a signature sound in House Music. This basically happens when you take one sound and use it to cut out another sound, for an example your kick and bass or any other instrument including vocals may be playing on top of each other using sidechain compression will not only get rid of the clash but also make a great ear candy for the listener.
